I always advise people, you can go into business with someone you just met or you can go into business with someone youve known for 25 years, but they are both risks because when money gets involved, sometimes people take on behaviors that you never could have predicted. And I thought, that looks interesting. Mike: To bring the conversation back full circle, one of the things we spoke right before coming on stage about was what lessons you would give yourself as a teenager thinking about the course of your life as an entrepreneur, the business takeaways. What was that process like of actually identifying a new market audience where there wasnt one already? Ruth Zukerman: The night before we opened? Ruth Zukerman: It was so spot-on by the way. They can either affirm or deny if that might be the right answer. Courage is knowing what not to fear. Plato or SoulCycle? My question was around the therapy topic you mentioned. But also, we have a lot of business school students in the audience now. When I was going through the divorce and the trauma that goes along with that, I started taking spin classes. Mike: That type of learning I think in a school like the GSB where theres a very touchy-feely mentality to approaching business, that resonates, Im sure, with us in the audience. Its a lot of pressure. So, if I hadnt been there, I guess that never would have happened. A lot of times when things dont pan outits when weve least predicted it and were often blindsighted. They never sacrificed ingredients and the work that went into it. But I have the answer here. The instructor puts a lot into it, especially when youre going into a boutique experience. And I found that if I was vulnerable, it made them feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable. Mike: Have you ever done a class for 600 people? Her stuff works huh!
